Stuffed Celery – A Thanksgiving Tradition

When I was a very little girl we would have Thanksgiving with my mom’s side of the family.  My cousin Doug is a year older than me and his brother Charlie is two years younger than I am.  Their house was a block away from mine so we were playmates growing up.  My family would alternate hosting Thanksgiving with their family.  I remember the three of us laughing and having fun putting olives on our fingers.  They called them bobos….

Well, here I am, with my kids all grown up and grandkids to buy Christmas Gifts for, and I have finally figured out how to make a reasonable Christmas List.  Better late than never, right?  So I decided to share it with you in hopes that it might help many of you at an earlier stage of your lives! Mama’s Cranberry Apple Salad

My Mama used to make an especially yummy Apple Cranberry Salad every year for Thanksgiving.  I’ve never seen or tasted anything else like it.  It goes wonderfully with turkey or on a turkey sandwich. If you’re making a small batch it is fairly simple to make.  If you tripple, quadruple or sixtuple – I don’t thing that’s a real word ;0) – it like we do, it can be a bit time consuming to cut and peel the apples and…

Mama’s Thanksgiving Sweet Potatoes

My Mama’s Sweet Potatoes have always been a favorite at our house for Thanksgiving.  My Mama was a very good cook and the family would always gather together for wonderful Sunday dinners at Mom & Dad’s place.  Thanksgiving dinner was no exception and it was always beyond delicious! It just isn’t Thanksgiving without Mom’s Sweet Potatoes.  They are are loaded with sugar and butter so we only have them on Thanksgiving and maybe once or twice a year other than…

In Honor of Veteran's Day

In Honor of Veteran’s Day

In honor of Veteran’s Day I want to share photos of my dad and my uncles who are veterans of World War II.  They are all very good men.  I love them so much and am very proud of them! This first Handsome Sailor is my Daddy, Bob Hill! My Dad and Mom.  My dad was a man’s man (and a ladies man) and he made a lot of good friends during the war.  He has many pictures that he…

The Egg McMuffin from Heaven??

People talk about signs from Heaven all the time – pennies that show up unexpectedly in your pathway, rainbows in the sky, a ladybug that lands next to you when you’re sitting outside. The signs are usually something pretty, or shiny or symbolic of good and happy things (not Egg McMuffins).  If you’re like me, you like to believe they really are signs from Heaven, but once in awhile you have a little twinge of doubt.  Well the morning that…

For These Things, I am Truly Grateful

Grateful! In August of 2014, I believe it was my niece that sent me a challenge on Facebook, to post something I was thankful for each day, every day, for a week.  I found it impossible to narrow my list down to just seven things.  So I broke each day into three sections, but actually each of those sections could be broken down several times over.  Many people use the month of November to post each day something they are…

Roasting Sunflower Seeds

This year G2 and I grew a giant sunflower.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had to convince him that it was okay for boys to grow flowers; the giant part helped!  I also told him that his great grandpa was a gardener and grew all kinds of flowers!  So grow one we did and it was a success.  We only grew one and we started it in a little pot in the house in the early Spring.  It got…
