The family road trip has become the stylish American vacation! Its popularity began to grow after World War II, when car manufacturing really took off and the automobile became affordable for most American families.  Of course, the interstate highway system was also rapidly growing and developing at the same time.  All this worked together to enable American families to travel the country on family road trips!
