My daddy was a “larger than life” kind of man. He was charming and enthusiastic and kind and everyone loved him! Dad was always involved in an interesting hobby and in planning awesome family activities or vacations. He made life fun for our family!!One of the ways dad showed his enthusiasm and spread joy was with music. He was always singing or whistling.
“I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover” is a song from 1927, written by Mort Dixon with music by Harry M. Woods. The original recordings of the song were made in 1927, but the song was remade popular in 1948 by Art Mooney, whose recording was #1 on the charts for 18 weeks.
My daddy was 25 years old in 1948 and that song must have been one of his favorites because I remember hearing him sing it all the time when I was growing up! Because it reminds me so much of my dad and my happy childhood, I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover is one of my favorite songs too!
In honor of my dad and St. Patrick’s Day, here are the words to this fun song!
I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover
I’m looking over a four-leaf clover
That I overlooked before
One leaf is sunshine, the second is rain
Third is the roses that grow in the lane
No need explaining, the one remaining
Is somebody I adore
I’m looking over a four-leaf clover
That I overlooked before
