Who Should come First, Your Spouse or the Kids?

Who Should Come First, Your Spouse or the Kids?

Who should come first, your spouse or the kids?  I did some quick research on this topic, and it brought up articles that gave conflicting advice.  “Put your husband first to preserve your marriage and thereby your children’s happiness.”  “By putting your husband first you teach children what it takes to have a happy marriage so they in turn can have a happy marriage someday.”  Other articles said the opposite.  “Remember spouses may come and go but your children will…

For These Things, I am Truly Grateful!

Many people use the month of November to post each day something they are thankful for.  My “thankful” list could be broken down to cover the 30 days of November and then some!  On top of that, I have multitude of blessing that I’m sure aren’t covered here, though I did try to make my categories broad enough to cover almost everything. So here it is – My annual Thankful List, with a few minor tweeks, just as relevant today as it…

For These Things, I am Truly Grateful

Grateful! In August of 2014, I believe it was my niece that sent me a challenge on Facebook, to post something I was thankful for each day, every day, for a week.  I found it impossible to narrow my list down to just seven things.  So I broke each day into three sections, but actually each of those sections could be broken down several times over.  Many people use the month of November to post each day something they are…

Pumpkin Walk

Every Halloween the city of Syracuse, Utah puts on a spectacular display of pumpkins, carved and painted!  It’s one of our family traditions to attend The Pumpkin Walk every October. I love to walk among the jack-o-lanterns with my grand babies.  Bundled up for the cold, with red cheeks and noses,  they run from one pumpkin to the next, oohing and awing and telling the rest of the family, “Look at this one!  Look at this one!” The kids get…

Remembering Our Boys’ Bio Parents

When our girls were 11 and 12, we adopted two brothers who were 13 and 14 at the time.  The boys had lost their mom when they were just babies and their dad about three years before.  One of the priorities I had at that time was to help the boys have fond memories and feelings about their family.  I wanted to make sure they felt like we were an addition to their family, not a replacement.  (They still have…

Back to School Shopping

Back to School Shopping – In The Good Ol’ Days

Back to School Shopping in the Good Ol’ Days   Back to School Shopping – In the Good Ol’ Days! When I was a little girl school shopping was a grand adventure!  My oldest sister graduated from high school the year after I was born. But my next two sisters were 5 and 6 years older than me and so they were interested in finding just the right fashion to impress their friends.  That “grown-up” girl attitude made things especially…

Family Breakfasts at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store

Every Sunday morning, my four older sisters and I, and our spouses, go out to breakfast and we’ve been doing it for a good number of years now. Most of the time, we go to Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. We started the tradition when our dad became elderly. It was a great way for us to spend time with him as well as to get him out of the house for an enjoyable time. So originally, it was my…

Mother/Daughter “In-Law” Relationships

In-Laws We all know the relationship between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law can be a precarious one. There are a plethora of jokes about meddling mothers-in-law.  If we’re honest, almost all of us will admit to laughing at a few of those jokes!  Being both a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law, I’ve experienced and considered the relationship from both sides. A mother loves her son, wants his time and attention and is passionate in her desire for him to have what’s best for…

Mother’s Day Calendar

Mother’s Day Traditions – Personalized Calendar My mom has been gone for over 20 years now and I miss her very much. My three older sisters and I go in together and purchase a great big bouquet of flowers and meet at the cemetery every Mother’s Day to remember our sweet mom. Since we can’t really buy any gifts for her other than that, we buy them for each other. We take them to the cemetery with us and exchange Mother’s…
