Reindeer T-Shirts with Footprints & Handprints

December 8, 2015|Posted in: Crafter's Corner, Holidays and Seasons

Reindeer T-ShirtsHere’s a super fun Christmas project to do with the kids!  It’s a reindeer made from a footprint, hand prints and a thumb print.

Here’s what you need:

  • Red T-Shirts (we used long sleeve since the weather is cold this time of year).
  • Acrylic Fabric Paints – Brown
  • Acrylic Fabric Paint – White
  • Acrylic Fabric Paint – Tan (or mix brown & white)
  • Acrylic Fabric Paint – Black (a bottle with a narrow tip)
  • Acrylic Fabric Paint – Glitter Red
  • Paintbrushes
  • Cardboard or Cardstock

Directions:

  1. Place the cardboard or cardstock between the front and back sides of the t-shirt so that your paint will not bleed onto the back of the shirt.
  2. Make sure your child’s hands and feet are clean.
  3. Paint their left foot with the brown paint.
  4. Press the painted foot straight down onto the shirt being careful not to create any smudges.
  5. Apply even pressure.
  6. Lift foot straight up from the shirt being careful not to create any smudges.
  7. Clean foot so that paint won’t be accidentally smudged onto the shirt or your work space.
  8. Paint child’s left hand with the tan paint.
  9. Press the painted hand straight down onto the shirt just above the toe prints, being careful not to create any smudges.
  10. Apply even pressure.
  11. Lift hand straight up from the shirt being careful not to create any smudges.
  12. Clean the foot so that paint won’t be accidentally smudged onto the shirt or your work space.
  13. Repeat steps 8 – 12 with the child’s right hand
  14. Repeat steps 8-12 using black paint on the child’s thumb and pressing it down onto the very end of the heal print.
  15. Using a paintbrush fill in the prints as needed to make the prints dark enough to show up well on the t-shirt.  Be careful not to completely paint over the “print look” of the prints you’ve made on the shirt.
  16. Allow paint to dry.
  17. Paint two white circles with smaller black circles inside for eyes.
  18. I outlined the footprint with the narrow tipped black paint to give it a more defined look.
  19. Using the narrow tipped black paint give your reindeer a mouth.
  20. Finally, using the glitter red fabric paint, give your reindeer a rosy cheek.
  21. Allow to dry.
  22. Remove cardboard for inside the shirt.
  23. Dress your little darlin’ and let them show off their fun new Reindeer T-Shirt!

Thank you! I may be a bit bias, but I think they’re kind of cute too.
