Mother’s Day Traditions – Personalized Calendar

image

My mom has been gone for over 20 years now and I miss her very much. My three older sisters and I go in together and purchase a great big bouquet of flowers and meet at the cemetery every Mother’s Day to remember our sweet mom. Since we can’t really buy any gifts for her other than that, we buy them for each other. We take them to the cemetery with us and exchange Mother’s Day gifts with our sisters.

I also enjoy spending Mother’s Day with my children and grandchildren. They’re my most treasured blessings. They often give me gifts for my garden and sometimes they help me plant or work in the garden, and I just love that!

Recently I started a tradition of giving my Mother-in-law a calendar for Mother’s Day. She has six grown children – Darla, Darryl, Dale, Dennis, Darren & Danae :0), and oodles and gobs of grandchildren and great grandchildren. They are all spread out over different states. We keep in touch with telephone calls, texts and social media. Thanks to social media I have access to photos they’ve all shared throughout the year, with which to make my Mother-in-law a calendar. I usually get a few older photos from her to include as well.

Here’s how it’s done:

• Gather your photos. If they’re not in digital format you’ll have to scan them to your computer. (I use Powerpoint to combine the various pictures and include backgrounds, borders, text and clipart and then save them in jpg format. This step is optional). You can just use a single photograph for each month if you so choose.

•  Decide what personal dates and information you want to include on your calendar, such as holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and special events and compile a list. (My calendar runs from June thru May of the following year so my Mother-in-law can start to use it as soon as she receives it).

•  Find a calendar program at any online photo printing site (I use WalMart). Follow the instructions to upload your photographs and personal date information.   They can usually print the calendar in just a day or two. Consider whether you will be picking it up or having it shipped so you’ll know how much time to allow for your calendar to be prepared.

•  Present the personalized calendar to that special Mom in your life! She’s sure to treasure it since it will be full of pictures of her greatest blessings!

I’ve always loved this idea but never actually done it! I should probably make one some time!

This is such a wonderful idea! I need to do this for my mom for Mother’s Day. She would love it. My mother-in-law passed away from cancer so maybe this would be a good way to cherish her memory too.

Megan, my sister makes one for us for Christmas every year in remembrance of our mom! You’re right, it is a great way to cherish memories of loved ones who have passed away.
